Kitchen Renovation Dumpster Guide: Size, Cost & Tips
By Keith McDonald•

Kitchen renovations are one of the most common dumpster rental projects. Here's what you need to know.
What Comes Out of a Kitchen Demo?
A typical kitchen gut produces:
- Cabinets (upper and lower)
- Countertops (granite, laminate, butcher block)
- Flooring (tile, hardwood, vinyl)
- Drywall (backsplash area, sometimes walls)
- Appliances (stove, dishwasher — NOT refrigerator)
- Plumbing fixtures
- Electrical boxes and wiring
- Trim and molding
Recommended Dumpster Size
For most kitchen renovations, we recommend the 20-yard dumpster ($400). Kitchen debris is bulky — cabinets, countertops, and flooring add up fast.
A 15-yard might work if you're only doing a partial renovation (countertops and cabinets only, keeping the floor).
Timeline Tips
- Day 1: Schedule dumpster delivery for the morning of demo day
- Days 1-2: Complete demolition and loading
- Day 3: Final cleanup and call for pickup
- Total rental: 3 days (included in base price)
Cost Estimate
- Dumpster rental: $400
- Typical debris weight: 2,000-4,000 lbs
- Weight charges: $400-$800
- Total: $800-$1,200
