Dumpster Rental in Wilmington, MA — Flat Rates, Local Driver
Keith McDonald is the owner and founder of McDumpsters, a family-owned junk removal, demolition, and dumpster rental company in Billerica, MA. With 20+ years of experience in waste management and logistics across Middlesex County, Keith personally oversees every project and handles most customer calls himself.

Wilmington is five miles from our Billerica base. Close enough that my daughter Marisa once timed the drive at eleven minutes and then spent twenty explaining to me why that was statistically significant. Point is, we can have a dumpster on your driveway the same afternoon you call — assuming you call before noon and the Route 93 interchange does not decide to stage a reenactment of its morning commute. A 15-yard roll-off is $350 flat. A 20-yard is $400 flat. Both include delivery, pickup, seven days, and the full weight allowance. No fuel surcharge, no environmental fee, no invoice that looks nothing like the quote.
What dumpster rental actually costs in Wilmington
Our pricing is flat. One number, everything included. We quote it before the bin arrives, and the invoice matches the quote.
- 15-Yard Roll Off Dumpster: $350 flat — 4 tons included, 7 days
- 20-Yard Roll Off Dumpster: $400 flat — 6 tons included, 7 days
- 30-Yard Roll Off Dumpster: $600 flat — heavy construction, demo jobs
Extra days are $15 per day after the first seven. Weight overage is $65 per ton over the included limit. We tell you both numbers before we drop the bin, not after we pick it up.
Most Wilmington rentals are the 15 or 20-yard. The 30-yard is for contractors running demolition or large construction. If you are cleaning out a garage, you do not need it.
What fits in each size
15-yard dumpster — $350
Roughly 12 feet long, 8 feet wide, 4 feet tall. It holds about three pickup truck loads stacked high. Handles most single-room projects and smaller cleanouts.
Good for:
- Kitchen or bathroom remodel (one room)
- Basement or attic cleanout
- Small deck demolition
- Flooring removal from a few rooms
- Yard debris from a seasonal cleanup
Not good for:
- Whole-house cleanouts with furniture
- Large renovation projects
- Heavy materials like concrete or brick in bulk — weight, not volume, is the problem
20-yard dumpster — $400
Same footprint as the 15-yard but taller — about 6 feet high. It holds roughly six pickup truck loads. This is the size most Wilmington homeowners end up needing, and it is only $50 more than the 15-yard. We usually recommend starting here.
Good for:
- Multi-room renovation
- Whole-house cleanout or pre-move purge
- Roof replacement up to about 30 squares of shingles
- Large deck or patio demolition
- Construction debris from a medium project
- Estate cleanouts — though a four-bedroom Colonial with a full basement may need a second pull
Not good for:
- Concrete, dirt, or asphalt in large quantities — call us about a dedicated heavy-debris container
- Anything taller than 6 feet that cannot be broken down
30-yard dumpster — $600
The big one. Used mostly by contractors for demolition, new construction, or large-scale renovation. If you are a homeowner and think you need a 30-yard, call us first — most of the time a 20-yard does the job and saves you $200.
Where to put it in Wilmington
Wilmington has a mix of neighbourhood styles — from the older, tighter lots near the town centre and the Silver Lake area to the more spread-out properties along Route 129 and out toward the Tewksbury line. Here is what to think about before we deliver.
Town centre and Silver Lake
The streets near the town centre and around Silver Lake can be narrow, especially in the older residential sections. I have been driving these streets since before some of them had sidewalks. We can usually fit a 15 or 20-yard on a driveway, but if your driveway is short or angled, send us a photo before you book. We have dropped dumpsters into some tight Wilmington driveways that other haulers turned down. The trick is knowing the truck's swing radius and the yard — not something a dispatcher in another state can figure out over the phone.
Route 129 and Ballardvale
The neighbourhoods along Route 129 and the Ballardvale section tend to have bigger lots and wider driveways. These are our simplest Wilmington drops — a 20-yard goes in without drama. If you are on one of the side streets off Route 129 with a steep grade, mention that when you call so we can plan the placement.
Near the Billerica and Burlington lines
Properties near the Wilmington-Billerica border and the Burlington side sometimes have shared driveways or limited street parking. A 20-yard fits most of these spots, but if access is tight, we will eyeball it and tell you honestly whether a 15-yard is the safer bet. We would rather size down and save you a headache than force a bin that barely fits.
Permits and regulations in Wilmington
Wilmington does not require a permit for dumpsters placed on private property — driveways, yards, private lots. If the dumpster needs to go on a public street or town right-of-way, contact the Wilmington Department of Public Works to check whether a permit is needed. In most cases, driveway placement keeps you permit-free.
The town's recycling and transfer programs handle certain items that cannot go in a standard dumpster — electronics, appliances with Freon, paint, and hazardous materials. Check the Town of Wilmington website for current recycling schedules and accepted items.
If you are unsure about placement or permits, call us at (978) 375-2272 before you book. We have delivered to enough Wilmington addresses to know the answer for most situations.
The national chain pricing game
I have said this before and I will keep saying it because it keeps happening to people in our service area.
You call a national hauler. They give you a number — say, $325 for a 15-yard. Sounds reasonable. You book it. The dumpster arrives. You fill it. They pick it up. Then the invoice comes, and the number is $485.
Read the contract — the one buried in paragraph 14 of a PDF you never opened. There was a fuel surcharge. An environmental fee. A delivery fee that was separate from the rental fee. A weight overage because their included weight was 2 tons, not 4. And a "processing fee" that exists for no reason other than to make the invoice higher.
We do not do that. Our 15-yard is $350. Our 20-yard is $400. That number includes delivery, pickup, the full weight allowance, and 7 days. If you go over on weight or time, we tell you before we charge you. The invoice matches the quote.
The national haulers' "transparent pricing" is not transparent. The advertised rate is the floor. The weight overage, the per-day extension, the trip fee for the driveway they could not access — that is where the bill doubles. Either you know what it costs before we start, or we do not start.
How to estimate your dumpster size
Most people underestimate. They think they need a 15-yard, fill it in two days, and call us for a swap. A swap means we pick up the full dumpster and drop an empty one — which costs another delivery charge. Starting with the right size saves you money.
Here is a rough guide:
- One room cleanout or small remodel: 15-yard is usually fine
- Two or more rooms, or a medium renovation: 20-yard
- Whole-house cleanout, moving, or large renovation: 20-yard, maybe two trips if you have a lot of furniture
- Roof replacement: 20-yard for most residential roofs in Wilmington
- Yard debris only: 15-yard unless you are clearing a heavily wooded lot
- Construction debris (drywall, lumber, framing): 20-yard — this stuff is bulky
- Heavy materials (concrete, dirt, brick): call us — weight caps matter more than volume
If you are on the fence, go one size up. The difference between a 15-yard and a 20-yard is $50. The cost of a swap is another full delivery charge. Math favours the larger dumpster.
When you do NOT need a dumpster
This is the part where I talk myself out of a rental, and I do it on purpose.
You do not need a dumpster if you are cleaning out one closet. Bag it, haul it to the transfer station, and save $350.
You do not need a dumpster if you have a few large items — a couch, a mattress, a broken dresser. Call us for junk removal instead. Our crew does the lifting, and a single-item pickup in Wilmington runs $75 to $150. That is cheaper than a dumpster rental if all you have is a sectional and a box spring.
You do not need a dumpster if your project generates only clean recyclable material — like a deck made entirely of untreated lumber. Some facilities take that for free or cheap, and you can haul it yourself with a pickup truck.
We would rather you call us, ask the question, and have us tell you that you do not need a dumpster than rent one you do not actually need. That is how we do business — honest answers first, invoices second.
Scheduling and delivery
Wilmington is five miles from our Billerica base. That means:
- Same-day delivery is available most days if you call before noon
- Next-day is guaranteed unless we are fully booked during a nor'easter cleanup week
- We know the routes. Route 129, Main Street, the cut-through from Billerica to the Ballardvale side — our driver has them memorised. A national hauler sending a truck from Peabody or Woburn does not have that advantage.
Call us in the morning, tell us the address and the project, and we can usually have a dumpster on your driveway by the afternoon. If you need a specific delivery window — say, after 2pm because you need the morning to clear the driveway — we work with you on timing.
Straight answers
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Wilmington?
Not if it goes on your private property — driveway, yard, private lot. Wilmington keeps it simple. If the dumpster needs to go on a public street, call the Wilmington DPW to check. In most residential cases, driveway placement means no permit.
How far in advance do I need to book?
We can often deliver same-day if you call before noon. For everything else, a day or two of notice is plenty. During storm cleanup weeks the queue fills up fast — call early if a nor'easter is in the forecast.
Can you deliver to tight driveways?
Yes. We deliver to tight driveways in Wilmington all the time. If you are worried about access, send us a photo and we will tell you if it fits. We have placed dumpsters in spaces that would make a real estate agent call it "cosy."
What can I put in the dumpster?
Household debris, construction waste, yard waste, furniture, appliances without Freon, and general junk. What you cannot put in: hazardous materials, paint, tires, batteries, Freon-containing appliances, and anything banned by Massachusetts waste disposal regulations. The town's recycling program handles the hazardous stuff.
What happens if I go over the weight limit?
We call you first. If the overage is small, we usually work with you. If it is significant — like loading concrete into a 15-yard that was supposed to hold household debris — we discuss the overage charge before we process it. Our overage rate is $65 per ton, which is lower than most national haulers.
Is there a discount for multiple dumpsters?
Yes. If you need two dumpsters at the same location or on the same project, call us and we will price it as a bundle. Contractors doing multiple jobs in the same week also get better pricing. Ask when you call.
Do you offer junk removal instead of dumpster rental?
Yes. If you would rather not load it yourself, our crew comes out and does the lifting. Single items start at $75, partial loads $250 to $500, full loads $500 to $800. For estate cleanouts, we quote based on volume. Call (978) 375-2272 and describe what you need gone.
The bottom line
Dumpster rental in Wilmington should not be complicated. You need a container, you need it delivered on time, and you need the price to be the price. That is what we do.

Our 15-yard is $350 flat, our 20-yard is $400 flat, and both include 7 days and the full weight allowance. No fuel surcharges, no environmental fees, no surprises. And no permit needed if it goes on your driveway — which, in Wilmington, it usually does.
Not sure what size you need? Call (978) 375-2272 and describe your project. We can tell you in about 30 seconds what size fits your job and what it costs. If you do not need a dumpster at all, we will tell you that too. Consider that a free service — talking ourselves out of money since 2025.
