Where to Put a Dumpster: Placement Tips for Your Property
By Keith McDonald•

Choosing the right spot for your dumpster makes the entire rental smoother. Here's what to consider.
Ideal Placement
The best spot is usually your driveway, as close to the work area as possible while leaving room for your vehicles.
Checklist:
- Flat, hard surface (concrete or asphalt driveway is ideal)
- 12+ feet of overhead clearance (watch for power lines and tree branches)
- 60 feet of truck access for delivery and pickup
- Close to your project to minimize carrying distance
- Accessible from the street — our truck needs to back in straight
Surface Protection
We place plywood boards under every dumpster to protect your driveway. This prevents scratches, cracks, and marks from the metal feet. If you have a newly paved driveway, let us know — we'll take extra precautions.
Common Placement Mistakes
- Blocking access — don't put it where you need to walk or drive regularly
- Under power lines — our truck needs overhead clearance to lift the dumpster
- On soft ground — a full dumpster can sink into grass or dirt
- Too far from the project — you'll waste energy carrying debris across your yard
Alternative Locations
If your driveway won't work:
- Side yard (if accessible and on a hard surface)
- Parking pad or turnaround
- Street (requires a permit in most towns — we can help)
