Construction Debris Removal in Massachusetts: Costs & Regulations - McDumpsters

Renovating your kitchen, ripping out a bathroom, or tearing down a deck? Construction debris piles up fast, and Massachusetts has specific regulations about how it must be disposed of. Whether you are a homeowner managing a DIY renovation or a contractor between jobs, understanding your debris removal options helps you stay compliant and on budget. Here is what construction debris removal costs in Massachusetts in 2026, what the state requires, and the best way to handle it.

What Counts as Construction Debris?

Construction and demolition (C&D) debris includes:

  • Wood: Framing lumber, plywood, trim, decking
  • Drywall and plaster
  • Roofing shingles (asphalt and wood)
  • Concrete, brick, and masonry
  • Metal: Pipes, rebar, flashing, nails
  • Tile and flooring materials
  • Insulation (non-asbestos)
  • Windows and doors

Not included: Hazardous materials (asbestos, lead paint chips, chemicals), electronics, and appliances with refrigerants require separate handling.

How Much Does Construction Debris Removal Cost?

| Method | Cost | Best For |

|--------|------|----------|

| Junk removal (we load) | $250 - $1,500 | Small to medium jobs, no truck needed |

| 15-yard dumpster rental | $350 + weight | Ongoing renovations, DIY projects |

| 20-yard dumpster rental | $400 + weight | Large renovations, roofing, gut jobs |

Junk Removal

McDumpsters sends a crew to load all construction debris onto our truck. Best for one-time cleanups where you want everything gone in a single visit. Pricing depends on volume — a small bathroom demo cleanup runs $250-500, while a full kitchen gut cleanup costs $800-1,500.

Dumpster Rental

For ongoing projects where debris accumulates over several days, a dumpster is more cost-effective. Load at your own pace during the 72-hour rental period (extensions $15/day). Debris weight is billed at $0.20 per pound based on the actual dump ticket.

Massachusetts C&D Disposal Regulations

The Massachusetts DEP requires that construction and demolition debris be disposed of at licensed C&D processing facilities — not regular municipal transfer stations. Key rules:

  • Recycling is encouraged: Clean wood, metal, concrete, and asphalt shingles can often be recycled at lower cost than landfill disposal
  • Asbestos inspection: Required before demolition of pre-1978 buildings
  • Clean fill: Concrete without rebar can be crushed and reused as road base

Junk Removal vs. Dumpster Rental for Construction Debris

Choose junk removal if: You have a one-time pile of debris, do not want to load it yourself, or have limited driveway space for a dumpster.

Choose a dumpster if: Your project generates debris over multiple days, you are comfortable loading it yourself, or you have a large volume (more than a full truck load).

McDumpsters offers both services. Call (978) 375-2272 and we will recommend the best option for your project. Serving all of Middlesex County including Billerica, Lowell, Chelmsford, and Tewksbury.
